The championship brought together amateur drivers from 12 countries and marked the first time the prestigious FEGAT event was organised in Malta.

Magro made a strong start by winning the opening race aboard JENNA DU VAL D’OR. 0-IMG_2353 Positive results such a fourth place on ISLANDAIS, a second place on KAPORAL VERT and another fourth place on DE NIRO BI helped Redent Magro remain among the leading contenders throughout a closely fought competition. To these one adds the fifth place on FIGHTER JIHAIME and the 10th place on BAYRON STAF. After losing the championship lead following the sixth race, he produced a crucial victory with JACOVIA MADRIK in the penultimate leg to return to the top of the standings. 0-IMG_3002

This result gave Magro a slight advantage over German representative Emma Stolle heading into the eighth and final race, setting up a tense conclusion to the championship. Stolle finished third in the final leg while Magro, driving FITZY DE VIVE, crossed the line further back, leaving the final outcome uncertain. The official final result saw Magro closing in at seventh place, earning the points required to secure the championship by the slightest 1 point margin.

The victory represents another significant achievement for Maltese harness racing. Despite Malta only joining FEGAT in 2018, this is already the second World Championship won by a Maltese driver. Cliferty Calleja, became Malta’s first FEGAT World Champion four years ago when he won the title in Italy.

Following his victory, Magro thanked all the owners who made their horses available for the championship and for presenting them in excellent condition for the international drivers.

The Malta Racing Club thanked FEGAT for entrusting Malta with the organisation of the World Championship, EquestriMalta for its generous sponsorship, Malta Equidrome for its collaboration, and all the horse owners whose participation made the event possible.

The first FEGAT World Championship staged in Malta thus concluded with a home victory, as Redent Magro secured the world title by the narrowest of margins.
